Free Ski Day at Brian Head December 13, 2012

This is one of those press releases we just had to get out there.

Thursday, December 13th, will be Free Ski Day at Brian Head Resort.  There will be FREE Lift Tickets and FREE Rentals.  We are no longer accepting reservations for Ski School, as our classes are full.

For those who have already made reservations for Free Ski Day, we’re excited that you will be joining us.  We just wanted to take minute and go over a few minor details to ensure that your day is as enjoyable as possible.

For those who enrolled in one of our renowned ski or snowboarding lesson programs, check in will start at 9:30 a.m. in the Navajo Lodge Learning Center. If you have children enrolled in Kids Camp, please remember that you will need to pick them up for lunch, or if you choose, you can purchase their lunch for $7 at check in that we will be serving to the children in our Kids Camp lunch room.

The ski and snowboard equipment that will be provided for the day free of charge will be our standard rental equipment packages, which is the latest ski and snowboard equipment available anywhere.  If you would like to try our high performance rental equipment, we will also have those packages available to rent for just $40.00 for skis and $47.00 for snowboards.

Finally, if you have children you would like to enroll in daycare, our State-licensed daycare facility will be open and the cost is $15.00 per hour or $85.00 for the day.
Jon Christoffersen
Marketing, Sales and PR Manager

You just gotta love the folks at Brian Head for putting this out to start the season.

Free Skiing at Eagle Ridge Resort, Utah

We find it interesting the different ways free skiing is often used to invite skiers and riders to try new resorts. One of the latest and intriguing stories with free skiing is Eagle Ridge in Utah.

Eagle Point resort is so intent on expanding its market that it’s offering free, unlimited skiing to California residents next winter. And for everyone else, skiing and riding are free on Thursdays in January. Looks like a great excuse to plan a road trip and check out something new.

To receive free lift privileges, visitors must simply provide a name and email address (and Californians must add proof of address).

Why free? "We have a truly exceptional mountain that people love to visit,” said Shane Gadbaw, CEO and co-owner of the resort. "Our last remaining challenge is to massively increase awareness in the core markets of Las Vegas, southern California and Utah." The resort is about 200 miles from both Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.

Eagle Point, formerly known as Elk Meadows, had been closed for eight years at the beginning of the century. A New York-based hedge fund assumed control in 2010 after the failed Mt. Holly episode and has upgraded the facilities.

The area is scheduled to open for the 2012-13 season on Dec. 21.The current plan is to operate Thursdays through Sundays and weekly during holiday periods. The resort is also trying to rent out the area to private groups Mondays through Wednesdays. The close proximity to Las Vegas is one of the target markets.

Ski Free at Red Mountain in Canada for US Residents

Red Mountain Resort, in Rossland British Columbia, is offering free lift tickets to all U.S. residents for 30 days, through Feb. 5.

While snow is spotty at best further south in the US, Red is white, having piled up two more feet of snow in late December when many U.S. winter resorts were showing rocks. Red's twin mountains are fully open with natural snow, according to the resort.

Red Mountain is just outside Rossland, high above the Columbia River. The resort is a few miles into Canada and 125 miles from its gateway, Spokane International Airport. It is one of our editors favorite getaways for skiing and riding. The atmosphere is old school yet incredible terrain for advanced and expert skiers.

This promotion is the first time a ski resort is running an offering of this magnitude.
“Despite the catastrophic snowfall conditions throughout the resort regions of the California Sierras, Lake Tahoe, Utah, Colorado, and other East Coast resorts, Red Mountain is continuing to deliver the goods—snow,” says an enthusiastic Howard Katkov, president and CEO of Red Mountain Resort.

With snow in full force at Red (1,685 acres/88 runs/2,919 vertical drop), every chair is running at the resort. Additionally, all of Granite and Red mountains’ runs are fully open with 100-percent natural snow. Furthermore, Red’s legendary "side-country" (2,500 acres) is open for the taking. Interested visitors are encouraged to look at flights going into Spokane International Airport in Washington (GEG) or Castlegar Airport (YCG) in British Columbia. For more details on Red Mountain, how to get here and where to lodge, visit redresort.com.

And, yes, there is a catch for claiming the free lift tickets.

Free Lift Pass Promotion Fine Print:
(1.) One free day of skiing per night of accommodations booked through Red Mountain Resort Lodging. Participant must call Red Mountain Resort Lodging at 877-969-7669 to access promotion and use code “Redsgotsnow” for free tickets. (2.) Number of lift passes per accommodation based on reported guest room occupancy, i.e. if room sleeps 2, then two tickets are available per day, no rain checks, refunds or future usage past length of stay. (3.) Customers must list all names of lodgers and length of stay to get free passes at time of booking. Customers must list all names of any guest staying in the condo at time of booking. (4.) Lift tickets are non-transferable. (5.) Must be resident of USA or resident alien residing in USA legally and must bring valid passport and ID. (6.) Promotion Period is from Jan 6, 2012 until Feb 5, 2012, lift tickets are only valid during the promotion period and after that regular lift ticket rates apply. (7.) Red Resort is not responsible for assisting with entrance into Canada. All US visitors must have a current valid US passport. (8.) Only Valid for new bookings made after Januray 5, 2012. (9.) Offer based on availability. (10.) Cannot be bundled with any other offers. (11.) Look both ways before crossing the street and be careful in bathtubs, as they are slippery.

You need to book lodging at redresort.com, with the booking code "RedsGotSnow," or by phone at 877-969-7669, to receive free passes for the days you stay at the resort. But you've got to sleep somewhere, right?

70 and Over Ski Free at Sugar Mountain

They sure keep changing the rules on senior free ski and board lift tickets. The aging baby boomer numbers has lead many resorts to rethink free skiing for seniors. At Sugar Mountain in North Carolina it is pretty straight forward. If you are 70 or older you ski free always.

Free Lift Tickets for Fourth Graders

The industry effort to encourage more participation in skiing and snowboarding kicks in during January.

In Michigan fourth-graders have the opportunity to get three free lift tickets to 20 participating Michigan ski areas under a program created by the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association (MSIA).

The “Cold is Cool” Fourth Grade Ski & Ride Passport is one of the elements of MSIA’s “Cold is Cool” program, which is dedicated to improving the health of the children in the state by offering winter outdoor activities for all Michigan kids and their families.

In order for fourth-graders to use the free lift or trail pass coupons, a paying adult must accompany them. Up to two fourth graders can ski free with each paying adult. Although the skiing is free, MSIA charges a $15 printing and shipping fee for each passport ordered.

Applications for the Fourth Grade Passport have been sent to all Michigan elementary schools. Parents and kids can also pick up the applications at participating MSIA ski shops or by visiting the group’s website at www.goskimichigan.com.

The website is chock full of great info and details designed to get you and your family on the mountain and enjoying skiing and snowboarding.

For more information on the passport program, visit the MSIA website or call the organization at (248) 620-4448.
